Global Warming in Singapore

Key Issues & Opportunities for Singapore Companies - 6/25/08

It is increasingly clear that climate change or global warming is one of the major environmental challenges of our time. Extreme weather patterns in 2005 have threatened lives and disrupted economies in many parts of the world. Increasing scientific evidence suggests a link between global warming and such natural disasters.

This calls for greater efforts around the world to slow down or reduce the emission of greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming. Singapore's commitment to climate change is consistent with our good record on environmental issues.

The National Environment Agency (NEA) will serve as the Designated National Authority (DNA) for the approval and registration of CDM projects in Singapore. Also under the KP, developed countries could buy carbon credits to help meet their emission-reduction targets.

As a result, carbon trading markets such as the EU Emissions Trading Scheme have developed. To explore opportunities relating to emissions reduction and carbon trading, IE Singapore has helped form an iPartner consortium of Singapore-based environmental technology companies.

Singapore Launches First "Bring Your Own Bag Day" - 4/19/07

At many participating supermarkets, many shoppers were seen coming with their own bags. Those who did not have one bought the reusable bags for less than one Singapore dollar (about 66 U.S. cents) from cashiers who eagerly encouraged them to do so.

Singapore's National Environment Agency (NEA), the organizer of the campaign, said it was encouraged by the response of the first day.

NEA Chief Executive Officer Lee Yuen Hee said in a statement: "We are very encouraged by the positive response to the campaign. More people are taking interest in environmental issues."

According to the NEA, at a supermarket named Giant in Parkway Parade, response was so overwhelming that reusable bags were sold out by midday and new stock had to be brought in.

According to the NEA, Singapore consumes 2.5 billion plastic bags each year. However, burning a ton of waste plastic bags produces almost 2,900 kg of carbon dioxide, the gas that causes global warming.

Singapore. Global Warming Ideas Not From an Expert - 1/15/07

Heavy rain is one of the consequences of global warming. The state controlled press tries to skim over it, by saying it is just unusually heavy rain. The truth is , unusually heavy rain will no longer be unusual. It will be the norm. Flooding will become an everyday occurrence. Not just once in a while.

The reason for flooding is this. It is not because of bad drainage. The canals and drains there are deep and sufficient enough since a long time ago. The government has done everything they can to improve drainage. There is nothing more they can do. The problem is not drainage. It is global warming.

The sea level is rising at an unprecedented rate. When the suns rays hit the surface of the sea, the heat causing sea water temperature to rise. When the rays become hotter with global warming, the hotter the water gets. When water temperature rises, it expands. Simple physics. And when it expands the sea level rises.

Tides are caused by gravitational pull of the moon. Each day, the moon circles the earth twice. Therefore you have 2 highs and 2 low tides each day. The tides high and low water mark differences increase when the water is thinner due to expansion. This tends to increase the high tides making them even higher.

The tides high and low water mark differences increase when the water is thinner due to expansion. This tends to increase the high tides making them even higher. When the moon is above the surface of the water, it tends to cause gravitational pull resulting in high tides. These high tides, as stated become higher when sea water temperature rises.
